A strong earthquake measuring 6.8 magnitude was felt across Pakistan, Afghanistan and parts of India on Tuesday.
The epicentre of the quake was reported to be in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, according to Pakistan’s official meteorological department.The depth of the quake was more than 180km and the initial quake occurred at 4.27pm local time.
Earthquakes are not uncommon in Afghanistan. The Hindu Kush mountain range is close to the junction of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates, meaning that seismic shifts are acutely felt in the region.

The strong earthquake caused residents to flee from their homes in Islamabad, reported Bloomberg.
Meanwhile there were widespread reports of tremors being felt in India and across parts of south Asia.
From Kabul and Lahore to New Delhi there were reports of tremors.
