Dubai residents can now use the video conferencing service to complete visa applications, The National reported on Thursday, citing an announcement made earlier.

The new service is set up by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFA).

Visa officials can contact applicants via the service if they discover a missing or unclear document, or if they need further information from the applicant in order to issue the visa.

Individuals can upload the necessary documents and images via the chat box when speaking with the official on a video call.

Applicants can still visit an official visa centre for visa issuance and renewals.

At a media conference, Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai, said that the latest service can be used for issuing and renewing any type of visa. This includes the residency visas, golden visas, green visas, student visas and visit visas.

“Sometimes, there are pending transactions that require the customer to come to the building. The new service will allow people to see and speak directly to an officer to solve the problem,” Al Marri said.

He added: “Amer call centre is for enquires before applying, but the video conference service will be for people who have already submitted an application, and there has been a delay.”

Individuals, both in UAE and abroad, can use the service seven days a week, any time between 8 AM and 6 PM. Al Marri added that plans are being discussed to make it a 24-hour service.

“We will have zero visitors after launching the service,” he said.
