Ahmed Musabih, the Director General of Dubai Customs and Chief Executive of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, praised Dubai’s efforts in combating drug-related issues and health risks.
He highlighted that the city has become an international role model in addressing the challenges posed by drugs.
Rashid Al Suwaidi, the acting Director of Sea Customs Management, also praised Dubai Customs’ unwavering commitment to safeguarding society from the detrimental consequences of drug addiction.
He mentioned that the department prioritises continuous training and equipping its personnel with advanced technologies to detect smuggling attempts, regardless of the various methods employed by smugglers.
The authority employs state-of-the-art measures, including early warning systems to identify suspicious shipments, X-ray detection, and specially trained K9 dog units, to combat smuggling.
These efforts have yielded successful results in the past, such as last September when a Dubai Customs task force foiled an attempt to smuggle over 200,000 doses of narcotics worth an estimated AED6.2 million into the country.
