Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council reviewed progress on the scheme at a meeting attended by Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture.

Located in Old Dubai, Al Fahidi Fort dates back to the late 1700s. It served as a defensive structure protecting traders along Dubai Creek.

“I reviewed the progress of work in the historic Al Fahidi Fort rehabilitation project, and we approved the final design. We thank the team of Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed, who is responsible for this important project… This fort, which was built more than two centuries ago, will remain a witness to Dubai’s ancient history and authentic heritage, and it is a vital part of Dubai Historic District Development Plan… With all our future aspirations, preserving our cultural heritage is a national priority and preserving it for future generations remains a great trust,” Sheikh Hamdan said in an X post.

Echoing the sentiment, Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed said that the Crown Prince’s endorsement “underscores our resolve to preserve Dubai’s rich history.”

Updates were given on improving accessibility, infrastructure and public spaces around the fort, all of which aims to elevate the visitor experience.

The restoration is part of plans to develop Dubai’s museum sector. It will explore the fort’s role in Dubai’s emergence as the heart of Old Dubai.
