Kuwait Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has revealed hopes of a “gradual return to normal life” once the country-wide curfew comes to an end on May 30 “within health guidelines”.
Al-Sabah admitted the government had to adopt “very tough” measures to mitigate the spread of coronavirus, which included banning prayers in mosques, suspending work places, closing borders and, ultimately the implementation of the full curfew earlier this month.
He said a commitment to the curfew “would lead to the quick and gradual restoration of normal life”, according to a report by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
However he warned the current measures, which were introduced on May 10, require “complete compliance”.
Al-Sabah also praised medical staff for the “huge efforts” over the past three months as well as expressing gratitude to policemen, Kuwait Army, National Guard and .firemen for confronting the disease.
There are currently 11,975 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Kuwait and a total of 88 deaths.
