Islamic New Year holiday announced for UAE private sector

Both the public and private sectors will return to work on Sunday, September 16

Private sector workers in the UAE will have Thursday, September 13 off for the Hijri New Year, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has announced.

Earlier this week, the Ministry announced that September 13 will also be a holiday for public sector workers.

Both the private and public sectors will return to work on Sunday, September 16.

The Islamic New Year marks the arrival of the Prophet Mohammed to Madinah after emigrating from Makkah, marking the beginning of the Islamic era in 622 AD.

The first day of the Islamic New Year will be formally announced by a moon sighting committee in the UAE.
