Up to 2,000 Bangladeshi nationals per month are leaving Bahrain and returning to their home country since late 2018, according to a media report.

“On an average between 1,000 and 2,000 Bangladesh nationals leave the country every month and we have been observing this phenomenon since August 2018,” Bangladeshi Embassy labour consul Shaikh Tahidul Islam, was quoted as saying by the Gulf Daily News (GDN).

Diplomats said around fifth of those leaving were quitting the country because they found it difficult to live in Bahrain, while the rest were deported by the Bahraini Labour Market Regulatory Authority or the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), the report said.

The diplomat also added that no new work visas had been issued to Bangladeshi nationals in Bahrain since August last year.
