Shahid, the most popular Arabic streaming service in the MENA region, is increasing prices by a massive 17 per cent next month.

The MBC-owned streaming service is home to popular shows such as reality TV hit Joelle Unfiltered, the latest Arabic movies and sporting events such as Cristiano Ronaldo’s matches in the Saudi pro League.

As the first video-on-demand (VOD) service in the Arab world, Shahid offers the largest Arabic library of content in the world as well as Western, Turkish, Korean and Bollywood titles.

It also shows WWE and Formula 1 for sports enthusiasts.

Subscribers via Apple have been informed the monthly price of subscription to the premium streaming service is about to be hiked.

The cost of a VIP subscription package with access to the latest content and live sports will go up from AED60 to AED70.

If subscribers do not manually cancel the service themselves they will be automatically charged more from March onwards.

A message sent to subscribers via Apple and seen by Arabian Business says: “Thank you for subscribing to Shahid. We wanted to let you know about an upcoming change to this subscription.

“The developer, MBC Group, is raising the price of this subscription from AED59.99 per month to AED 69.99 per month.

“Your subscription will automatically renew for AED69.99 per month starting on March 18 unless you cancel at least one day before”
