The business community has reacted with heartfelt comments on the loss Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
“As his untimely demise slowly sinks in, the nation has indeed lost a father, a mentor, and a legend that will be forever remembered for his selfless contribution to the growth of this great nation,” noted the the Middle East Public Relations Association (MEPRA).
The regional organisation said it was deeply saddened by the passing of Sheikh Khalifa who it called “a great and visionary leader who led the country to greatness”.
During his reign as the President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, MEPRA noted the country consistently experienced tremendous and unprecedented development in all sectors.
“From infrastructure to world-class healthcare, decent living conditions for all, to thriving homegrown businesses to a leading hub for entrepreneurship, Sheikh Khalifa ensured that the UAE remained globally competitive across all sectors”.
Its comments were echoed by Adeeb Ahamed, Managing Director of LuLu Financial Holdings.
“Through his actions,he inspired millions across the world. I express my sincerest condolences to the ruling family & people of UAE. He will forever be remembered,” he wrote in a tweet
Massimo Falcioni, CEO of Etihad Credit Insurance, said: “His unshakeable belief and trust in progress through unrestricted trade brought exceptional growth and prosperity to this country.
“Indeed, he was a true champion of progress, peace and prosperity, and we mourn with utmost sadness and sorrow the passing of a great man and one of the most distinguished leaders in the world.”
On Saturday, the UAE Federal Supreme Council unanimously voted for Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to become the President of the United Arab Emirates.
The leaders of the other emirates wished Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed success “in serving his people and country.”
Sheikh Khalifa died at the age of 73 and had assumed the office of the UAE President in 2004 after his father, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, passed away.
“The people of the UAE and the entire Middle East region have been robbed of a gem. He will be greatly missed. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” added MEPRA.
