Explosion targeting Egypt tour bus injures 16 near Pyramids

Some of the wounded were foreign nationals, with the blast occurring in front of a museum that’s under construction

At least 16 people were injured when an explosive device targeted a tourist bus near the Giza pyramids in Egypt, said Hanaa Serour, an official at the Health Ministry.

Some of the wounded were foreign nationals, according to Mohammed El-Saghir, head of police investigations in Giza’s al-Haram neighborhood. The blast occurred in front of a museum that’s under construction, and there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Militant groups in Egypt have repeatedly targeted tourists. In 2015, an ISIL affiliate bombed a Russian airliner carrying holidaymakers from a Red Sea resort, killing all 224 people on board.

Last December, three Vietnamese tourists and a local guide were killed by a roadside blast around the same area of greater Cairo as Sunday’s explosion.
