Principal photography has finished in Abu Dhabi on 6 Underground, an upcoming Netflix action-adventure film starring Ryan Reynolds, Abu Dhabi’s TwoFour54 has announced.
Filming for the film – which is being directed by Michael Bay – began on August 20 and used located in Florence, Siena, Taranto and Rome before continuing in the UAE on November 12.
Sites used in the UAE included Al Ain, Liwa and Ras Al Khaimah before completing principle photography on December 5 in Abu Dhabi City Centre.
In total, 24 locations were used during the 27 days of shooting in Abu Dhabi.
The production was in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, which offered a 30 percent rebate on production spend in Abu Dhabi. Twofour54 provided full production services, such as location assistance, securing permits and suppliers as well as catering, accommodation and travel.
“The UAE, and Abu Dhabi in particular, has provided diverse backdrops that have added to the richness of our production,” Michael Bay said. “I look forward to returning to the UAE and in the future to spend time exploring all he country has to offer.”
Ryan Reynolds, for his part, said that the production of the film “was an experience I will never forget.”
“I was impressed with the local crew and artisans we’ve met through our journey,” he added. “Together, we’ve made an exciting movie with equal parts action and humour that will appeal to a diverse audience.”
The film is currently in post-production in the United States and is slated for release on Netflix in 2019.
