US magician David Blaine is among the headline acts booked to appear in Abu Dhabi this summer.

Blaine and Arab Idol winner Mohammad Assaf have been named as the star turns for the Summer Season, which is organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and runs from June 5 to August 31.

The magician, famous for his death-defying stunts and street tricks and illusions, will make his Middle Eastern debut in Abu Dhabi at Emirates Palace on August 21-23 while Assaf will perform at Emirates Palace on August 14.

The authority has teamed up with leading UAE event organisers such as Flash Entertainment and The Alchemy Project to deliver a programme packed with headline shows, a statement said.

Sultan Al Dhaheri, acting executive director for TCA Abu Dhabi, said: “We launched a summer programme of events in 2009 under the name of Summer Fest, and every year since the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) has hosted a programme of events.

“This year is different; we’ve rebranded as Summer Season as we’ve expanded the activities to include Al Ain and Al Gharbia – because we want everyone to be part of the festival.”

Bollywood star Sunidhi Chauhan will also take part in the Abu Dhabi Summer Season while the Royal Moscow Ballet will perform Cinderella. Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo producers will also put on La Verità.
