Indian expats in the UAE can get health insurance for families back home

Policy costs will start at $61 (AED 225)

Indian residents in the UAE can now provide health insurance for their families back home, reported The National newspaper.

This is due to a collaboration between the UAE’s Aster DM Healthcare and RAK Insurance which offers policies costing between $61 (AED 225) and $1,034 (AED 3,800) a year for a primary member. The policies cover care at 5,500 hospitals in India.

The primary member can add a spouse, children, parents and in-laws who reside in India. While the cut-off age to add family members is 70 years, the plan can be renewed until a member is 75 years.

In addition, new-born babies are not automatically covered and will need to wait until the policy renewal anniversary to be added. Congenital conditions are also not covered.

The plan, called Arise, also allows outpatient benefits in at Aster DM Healthcare’s in India. It is expected to cover 10,000 people in its first year.

Dr Azad Moopen, the chairman and managing director of Aster DM Healthcare, told the newspaper that he expects the programme to expand to other GCC states with large Indian communities.

There are almost 2.6 million Indian expats in the UAE.
